Less than a year since the release of Intimacy (and mere months after Intimacy Remixed), Bloc Party are back...ish. August 10th is the scheduled release date of "One More Chance," which is to include remixes by Tiesto, Alex Metric, Todd Terry and Heartbreak. Before the release of Intimacy there was talk of there being a companion record to be released in 2009, yet according to an article in the most recent issue of NME, London's post-punk influenced dance heroes are currently without a label and not in a particular hurry to make another record. While this sounds like posturing and typical Brit band blather spouted simply to stir up controversy, Bloc Party have done their best to shy away from that sort of rubbish throughout their career. My personal favorite track from "One More Chance" is the uncredited "extended" remix, that keeps the original bassline and Martin Gore-inspired guitar...enjoy it below.
The blogosphere has been abuzz the past couple of weeks with talk of San Francisco synth-punk pioneers The Units. After many attempts at proper reissues and/or releases of two "lost" Bill Nelson-produced albums, Apocalypso fave Headman has released a 12" of "High Pressure Days" on his own Relish Recordings label. Their story is an all-too-familiar one of pure art glory and critical acclaim eventually squashed by major label machinations. Check their Wikipedia entry for more on their history and links to their MySpace page, video from the band and reviews from their active period. Check out Headman's take on "High Pressure Days" below.
The debut of Apocalypso (the party!) is three weeks away. Click on the flyer image on the right for a chance at guest list love...more info soon.
