Summer hits and IT'S ALMOST OUR BIRTHDAY!!!

First off, before we give you the free music, we are proud to invite you to our 1 year anniversary! It's hard getting new nights off the ground here in San Francisco, so our heartfelt thanks go out to those that have come out month after month to rock the eff out with us! Our Birthday present to ALL of YOU! is FREE COVER! That's right - NO ONE has to pay! Plus, if you're there early enough, you'll get in on the FREE CUPCAKES and FREE 1 year anniversary CDs! Handpicked hot tracks by your DJs Six, Candy and Starr! So come out, bring your friends out, bring your Mom out and bring your friends Mom out!

Now the freebees! As always, we love to post tracks we love, but we always encourage you to support the artist. Without Artists, DJs & Remixers - we wouldn't have a reason to dance. So give them a big thanks for purchasing their music.

Starr's Favorite Remixes of the summer months:

While you my not be a Lady Gaga fan (we know, you either hate her or love her), this remix is the shit. DJ Kue is a local out of San Jose and produces mixes that deserve some good attention. I DJ'd my first SF Pride gig this year and I was nervous as I was the 1st DJ on the lineup. DJ Kue's remix of Lady Gaga's Monster is what I can thank for bringing over 700 people to Hyde and Market. We had people dancing all the way back to Laguna all day. So turn the bass up and enjoy this track!

Lady Gaga - Monster - DJ Kue Remix

One of my all time favorite overseas vocalists, Luciana has teamed up with Nari & Milani to make one hot mess of a track. It's totally bangin! Yes, I said Bangin. Check out I got my eye on you, and tell me you don't wanna shake it! I dare you!

Nari & Milani feat. Luciana - I Got my Eye on You

Little known, The Trucks deserve some attention. This remix of Titties is raw and dirty and WE LOVE IT!

The Trucks - Titties - Posr Remix

And because it is late and my descriptions are getting smaller and smaller, here's a remix I love. It's not that new, but it's a damn good remix. And who doesn't love cute Lilly Allen? This track is one of my favorites to rock out to in the DJ booth!

And that's it folks! We hope to see you at our 1 Year Anniversary!

Danny White + Raffle Benefit for Odin the dog - THIS FRIDAY!

As the weather gets warmer, we go out more. And thus once again, have neglected contributing to our blog. But, if you haven't been bombarded with our Facebook invite for THIS FRIDAY!, Please let us bring what's coming up to your attention!

This Friday, June 18th, we have guest DJ Danny White of Indie Slash joining us - and trust us - you don't want to miss it! Danny White is known to bring the party wherever he goes. So expect to see some sexy tail feather shaking to some of the hottest indie & electro dance music!

To top off one night of guaranteed dancefloor melt down, we're having a Raffle Benefit for our dear friend Cherie Allen's dog, Odin.
Odin was in a near fatal accident not long ago. He had to have a complicated surgery, which left him paralyzed from mid back down. He has no use of his hind legs and no feeling in the lower portion of his body.
He's a strong pup and can keep up with the other dogs, but he's in desperate need of a Wheel Chair. Without a wheel chair, running around is causing major strain on the working portion of his back and causing damage to his lower limbs.
Cherie Allen is a talented, self taught artist. She will be raffling off two pieces of great personal meaning to her. A drawing of Kim Shattuck and a drawing of Crystal Castles. We've seen these in person, and we're jealous that we can't enter the raffle ourselves.

BUT YOU CAN! Come out and buy as many $1 raffle tickets that you can! Hope to win and help this dear puppy get a wheel chair and live as much of a normal life as he can -and- deserves.
Kim Shattuck. Embellished with Glitter. Original piece.

Crystal Castles. Original piece.

We'll see you Friday at the Cat Club! 9:30pm! Still only $5 to get in!

Gimmie that Indie Nu Disco Feel!

Life is a party. Clearly. As we have neglected you for too long...

I've been feelin' the Indie Nu Disco sound the last few weeks. And long time on my radar, Frankmusik, deserves a little love from us over here at Apocalypso.

Not long ago, I was swooning over Better Off As Two. And maybe I'm a little late in my blossoming love for Frankmusik. But here's a little jam by Acid Girls, Featuring Frankmusik. And if anyone wants to pull the "but that's almost a year old!" card, you can...well, you don't have to dance to it. But I'm gonna!

Acid Girls - Wake Up Feat. Frankmusik

Hitting big on the Indie blocks dance floor, are Flight Facilities.

Crave You is a mellow jam, yet still has a dance floor appeal for your ultimate shoulder shimmy.

Flight Facilities - Crave You

Sorry for the lack of content and lack of dead-on-terminology. Like I said, life is a party, when I have spare time - I'm on a dancefloor. And if I'm lucky between that and work - I might get some sleep, too!

We'll see you at the Cat Club on May 21st for our next edition of Apocalypso!

Something old, Something new. Or vice versa....

We love Remixes! There's no doubting that the next dance club you go to (*insert plug about Apocalypso hitting Cat Club this Friday in S.F. HERE!*) will play one of your favorite songs, only it's better. With bigger beats, righteous loops and snippets of your favorite chorus line. We often highlight the best dance remixes and often, the original work is left in the dust as a hit that created a better hit. The remixers claim their fame and it creates a win win relationship for the dance floor. The original artist is still exposed. The remixer gets his creds. There are countless times I hear "Who does this remix!?!" by someone drenched in sweat and 3 cocktails to the wind. They wont remember in the morning. But they'll be furiously searching blogs and bugging their friends to help them find it.

I'd like to give awards to two of my current favorite remixers right now. I'm not sure what the awards are. I guess it's that I'm talking about them. Right here. Right now.

Evil Nine. Evil Nine has worked with the likes of artists such as Autokratz, Alex Metric (see previous post) and Aesop Rock. Recently, they released an EP entitled No Manners feat. Spoek Mathambo. And I patiently await to hear this on a bangin' sound system. With that Indie-Diso feel, paked tightly with hilarious lyrics about an unfortunate club girl, that once you wrap your head around what they are saying - you can't help but sing along. They won me over at the mention of Bananas and Tony Danza. It's just too much fun. Butt don't take my word for it, take a listen for yourself.

Evil Nine - No Manners Ft. Spoek Mathambo

Another remixer on my golden list is Yuksek. Yuksek definately has a certain "sound." If you heard their remixes in a club and were familiar with Yuksek's work, you might be able to call it out. The thing about Yuksek's sound is that it never gets boring. It's good. Everytime. And, quite honestly, if you work with Amanda Blank - you don't get much hotter than that.

Yuksek can take a well loved song and take out everything that's soft and leave you with the best parts. For instance, take Lady Gaga's (c'mon, who DOESN'T LOVE HER?) Paparazzi, and take that teeny bit of it that you can't stand anymore - throw it out, wrap up the leftovers with some gritty bass and slather it on dance floor toast - and the song is a perfect, tasty snack. I'm not sure how I worked that into metaphorical "dance floor toast," but maybe I just have a hard time coming up with realistic metaphors. At least it didn't involve unicorns... hrmmm.... Lady Gaga riding a unicorn.... oh, right. The music.

Lady GaGa - Paparazzi (Yuksek Remix)

As always, if you love the music, please support through the likes of beatport.com!

And that's all for now, folks. See you tomorrow night on the dancefloor.

We're ready to start again!

Let me introduce you to a new dance floor lover, Alex Metric.

I'm suprised I haven't heard more buzz about this guys solo stuff, or perhaps I've just been hiding under a rock myself. "It Starts" is a bangin' new indie track that just screams: it's time to get on the dance floor. Time to jump up and down. Time to make the sweat fly and our heels tap. I can just picture all the kids (ok, not kids) right now. Singing along to the chorus as if their lives depended on it. If the indie rockish vibe is not quite your cup of tea and you need more of a beat, check the Evil Nine remix out.

If you dig the tunes, please support! Check out Alex Metric on iTunes and Beatport.com

And as a reminder - Club Apocalypso is hitting San Francisco tomorrow night! (Friday, Feb 19th) at the Legendary SOMA Cat Club! Definately not to be missed. We'll see you on the dancefloor!

I've got a rocket...

After taking a detour from the dancefloor stompers to make 2007's brilliant yet underrated Seventh Tree, Goldfrapp are back. I'm not quite sure what to make of "Rocket" or the remixes, but the EP features mixes from Richard X and Tiesto as well as Apocalypso faves Grum and Penguin Prison. The album, Head First, is out on March 23rd.
